FL.Lt.Jerry John Rawlings was born on Sunday,22nd June1949 at Accra, Greater Accra His father was Scottish officer in Colonial administration.His mother was known to be called Victoria Agbotui.Jerry John Rawlings came from Denu Kokpe in the volta region.He is an Ewe man.Fl.Lt.Jerry John Rawlings married Nana Konaduband gave birth to Four chicken.He attended Saint Joseph's Catholic primary and middle school.
In 1963 he attended Achimoto school.form 5 woth o level.1966: Enlisted as a Flight Cadet at the Ghana Air force station Takoradi.He was selected officer in the cadet training Military Academy Teshie,Accra in September 1967.He attrnded Military Training Course in Takoradi in 1968.Fl.Lt.J.J.Rawlings was commission as pilot officer January 1969 and promoted Flight Lieutenant April 1969.
On Monday,28 May,1979 he failed in hos coup attempt and was resounded up before a court martial in Acra with six men.4th June 1979, the armed Force Revolutionary Council was formed.Major Gen.Odartey Wellington was killed at Nima police station Accra on Saturday,16th June 1979 .Gen I.Achiampong chairman of NRS and SMCI and major Gen.E.K.utuka were executed at teshie firing range by J.J Rawlings.
On Tuesday,26th June 1979,Gen.Akuffo ,Gen.A.A.Afrifa Air Vice Marshal G.Y Boakye real admiral,J K Amedume major Gen.R.E.A.Kotei,Col.R.j.A Felli were executed by Rawlings at teshie firing Range.On Monday 24th September,1979 Rawlings handedover to Dr.Hilla Limann as president of the third republic.
On Thursday,31st December,1981,J.J overthrown Dr.Hilla liemann.Friday 1st January 1982 , curfew was imposed in Ghana by the PNDC regime.7th January 1993,J.J Rawlings was sworn as a president of the fourth repub.Tuesday ,7th January 1997,the second inauguration of the fourth republic. On Saturday 7th January 2001 he handed over to Mr.j.a Kuffour as the president of the fifth republic .He was 20 years in office as president.
