Lt.General E.K.Kotoka was born on Sunday,24th October 1926 at alakple in the Volta region.His home was Fiahor at Ewe land Volta Region.In 1931 he attended Roman Catholic Primary and trained as a cachist.He completed his elementary school in 1941 and became a pupil teacher for one year. He was trained as a Gold smith in 1942.
In 1947,he was enlisted as a private in the infantry school at teshie in Accra.He was promoted to sergeant in 1948.Lt.General E.K.kotaka was selected for a course in England.Action hall among West African army in 1952.In April,1954 he was Commissioned to British Army on Rhine .He was Platoon commander with the rank of captain and later in 1959. He was among second Battlion of Ghana arm to Congo wherew he commanded D.Company .
he was promoted to major and latter Lt.Colonelin 1961.Lt.General Kotaka was transferred to the first Infantry Brigade at Kumasi in 1965.On Thursday,24th February,1966. Plotted and overthrown Dr.Kwame Nkrumah under code name Operation cold chop.
On Monday,17th April,1967.Lt Samuel Arthur and Lt.Moses yeboah arrested and killed Lt Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka near Ghana International Airport (now Kotoka international airport. he was 41 years befire he died.
