Senegal hasn't won Africa Cup of Nations before,They were aiming to follow Zambia to win their first maiden Afcon Cup.Their current Coach Cise has taken them to Afcon on three occasion,first he went to finals with them as a Captain in 2002 and lost,in 2019 he lost to Algeria at the finals and Finally in 2022 which proved to be the year to redeem himself and he did it.He won the 2022 Afcon cup of nation for Senegal and being the first ever manager to grace the country with Afcon trophy.
Sadio Mane is also been very influencial and the talisman of this strong Senegalese team.He has been very decisive in this years afcon registering three goal and two assist to help his team to win the Afcon.In 2017 ,Sadio Mane lost a penalty vs Cameroon,He lost a penalty against Kenya and Uganda in 2019 and in 2022 he lost it against Egypt in the finals of the Afcon at the first half of the game.He is the player who went to take the final penalty to give senegal their first ever trophy (Afcon).
Edouard Mendy has also being fantastic for his club and country in the year 2021,He won champions league with Chelsea,super cup, being the UEFA Best Goalkeeper and FIFA world best goalkeeper ,he stepped in when he was being called, Mendy has tried so many times to disallow goal from the spot but it seemed it became his shortcoming, Saving only two penalty from the number of penalty faced was not speaking well of the best keeper.In this final match Edouard Mendy helped his Senegal team to win the Afcon Trophy by saving a penalty in the shootout.
Senegal's wait has seen very long ,Their coach stick to the team despite the numerous times he failed them and now he has put smiles and joy on their faces.They really worked hard and have a very strong team who could go to afcon finals for two consecutive times.it's a plus for them.So many people giving their support to them collapsed.Even their Journalist was seen losing his leg .
