Lt.Gen.A.A.Afrifa was born on Sunday,26th April,1993 at Asante Mampong in the Ashanti Region.His father was Opanyin Kwaku Amankwaa.And The name of his Mother was Ama Serwa Amaniampong.LT.Gen.Afrifa was from Asante Mampong.He attended Presbyterian Boys Boarding school at Asante Mampong in 1952.He then went to Adisadel College in Cape Coast in the year 1952-1957.He went to Regional Officer social school 1957-1958.
1958-1960 Military Academy in Sandhurst England,he attended that school.In 1961,he was a commander Rifle Company.Lt.Gen.Afrifa became general staff officer in 1962-1964. He then went to Defense College Teshie Accra in 1964.
On Thursday,24th February 1966.he overthrown Dr.Nkrumah's government by Coup detat. He was a commanding Officer, second battalion of infantry in 1966.In 1966-1967,He became part of the eight man member of (N.I.C).on 2nd April 1969 he became chairman of the state and handed over on Sunday 5th October,1969
LT.GEN.A.A.Afrifa was arrested and detained by national redemption council under Gen.I.K.Achiampong,on Sunday,15th January 1972 -friday 26th December 1972
On Monday 16th june 1972, he was picked up fromhis farm at Asante Mampong and was executed by firing squad after Wednesday June 14,1979, uprising by Flt.Lt.J.J.RawlingsHe was 43 years old .He was 6 month in office as a head of state.
